MOUS 1 launch Friday night
The 206-foot-tall rocket and its payload are scheduled to lift off from Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 5:15 p.m. Friday. The 44-minute launch window that night will extend through 5:59 p.m. Two launch attempts were scrubbed last week as a result of bad weather. The rocket was returned to its assembly building and will be moved back to the launch pad on Thursday.
The weather on Friday is expected to be iffy at best. A cold front is expected to sweep into the eastern Gulf of Mexico and northern Florida, bringing thick, electrically charged clouds and strong winds into the Cape Canaveral area. Air Force meteorologists say there is a 60 percent chance bad weather on Friday will force another delay.
The forecast for Saturday and Sunday improves significantly. Meteorologists say there is a 70 percent chance the weather would be acceptable for launch on Saturday and there is an 80 percent chance of acceptable weather on Sunday. Sunday is also the running of the Daytona 500 NASCAR race.
