The Air Force has pushed back the launch of a next-generation Global Positioning System satellite by a day, to Friday, because of a problem with a launch pad swing arm.
The GPS IIF-SV1 satellite is now scheduled to blast off atop a United Launch Alliance Delta IV rocket at 11:25 p.m. EDT Friday from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station's Launch Complex 37. The window extends to 11:43 p.m. EDT.
The Air Force announced late Tuesday that mission managers had determined that ground support equipment controlling a swing arm on a Fixed Umbilical Tower was not working properly and would take an extra day to fix.
The weather forecast for the launch is good -- 80-percent "go" on Friday, and nearly as good the following two days if they are needed. Click here for the official forecast.
